Disclaimer

The calculators on HitchCalc provide estimates for general information only.

Not a substitute for manufacturer ratings

Your vehicle, hitch, trailer and tire manufacturers set the ratings that legally and safely apply to your equipment. Always check the owner’s manual, the certification and Tire and Loading labels in the door jamb, the trailer’s VIN plate, the hitch label and the tire sidewall. If any result on this site differs from those ratings, follow the manufacturer.

Not professional advice

Nothing on this site is engineering, legal or mechanical advice. For questions about your specific setup, consult your dealer, a qualified hitch installer or a certified mechanic. Towing laws, licensing and equipment requirements (such as trailer brakes, mirrors and safety chains) vary by state, province and country; check the rules where you drive.

Accuracy

Results depend on the numbers you enter. Rules of thumb such as the 10–15% tongue weight range, the 80% towing rule and the fuel economy loss estimator are general guidelines that may not suit every vehicle or trailer. Weighing your loaded rig on a certified scale is the only way to know its real weights.

No liability
